National School Walkout is not a South event

While high school students––nationwide and many of our own––are planning a school #walk out Friday, April 20 at 10 a.m., all should know South High School is not associated with coordinated efforts behind this event.

That said, a contingent of South students have shared plans to make a nearby park their immediate walk out destination. From there, they are coordinating transportation.

As always, we support our students' right to free speech and protest, and as always, we will follow walk out protocols.

  • Choosing to walk out, means choosing to miss school and accepting responsibility for an unexcused absence.
  • Students who leave the building for the walk out will be considered dismissed for the day and will not be permitted back in the building the remainder of the day.
Finally, as organizers behind the national walk out eloquently point out in A Note on Safety and Privilege,  " mindful of the fact that not everyone walking out faces an equal level of risk."
