Today's Tigers: Dex Griffin & Sarah Minette

today_s_tiger.jpg

Today's Tigers are Dex Griffin and Sarah Minette! The two--conditioning coach and music teacher--teamed up to add Sarah's crossfit skills to South's after-school Conditioning Program, and got a whole lot more--a caring teacher-trainer combo plus the suppport of Nordeast Crossfit Gym.

After school, Monday through Thursday, the weight room at South High is bustling with South students--athletes and non-athletes alike--all working with Conditioning Coach Dex Griffin.

The program, a free after-school haven for many students, is where Dex welcomed music teacher Sarah Minette's offer to add her cross-fit skills to the program.

Minette's become a crossfit enthusiast, working out regularly Crossfit Nordeast.

She's made great strides in her own training and is dedicated to seeing South students push themselves to greater heights of fitness.

At South, the program facility is equipped with exercise machines and weights, but not the benefit of the proper gym gear for working out, nor the resources or boosters that other teams have to host fundraisers.

That's where Minette's cohorts from Crossfit Nordeast came in. Her fitness colleagues wanted to contribute and decided to donate gear to the program.

Coach Griffin thought it was an outstanding gesture. "The students are now free to show up without the worry or the excuse that 'Hey, I can't work out today. I don't have my gear.'  We've now got the gear for them. Everyone can work out."

Griffin also adds that the numbers of students participating have gone up, especially the number of female athletes. "But you don't need to be an athlete to join the Conditioning Program which is part of the South High Athletic Program. There are no fees. everyone is welcome."

After-school conditioning's The Place To Be, 3:15 -5:15 p.m., Monday-Thursday, in the weight room at South High!

Thank you, Coach Griffin, Ms. Minette and Nordeast Crossfit! Special thanks, too, to the South High Foundation for their staffing contribution to the program!
