Hello everyone! 

 

We are excited to be getting back into the swing of things with students and staff here at South. We appreciate all of those who joined us for College Knowledge and Financial Aid Night. Presentations will be uploaded and linked on the South High Counseling page

Fall is a great time to explore your college options! Mark your calendars for the following events:

Career and College Center Events 

 

FAFSA/MN State Aid Application Drop In Session—Tuesday, October 15 4:00pm-8:00pm 

Need to start or want to finish your FAFSA or State Aid Application? Join Katie and Kelsey in the Career and College Center Tuesday during conferences (Room 246). 

Please make sure to bring the following information to complete the FAFSA/State Aid Application: 

Federal Student Aid ID (FSA ID) 

Social Security Numbers (student & parent) 

2018 Federal Tax Returns (student & parent) 

2018 W2 Forms (student & parent) 

Driver’s License 

Business & investment mortgage info (stocks, etc.) 

Permanent resident card (Green Card) 

 

 

College Representative Visits 

Representatives from colleges, apprenticeship and job programs, and the military are visiting the CCC to talk with students about their programs and answer questions. Students can sign up for these events via Naviance or by coming to the CCC for a pass. It is at the discretion of the teacher to let them attend during class time. Parents: Rep visits in the CCC are for students only.

Scholarships 

 

Below are a list of scholarships with deadlines approaching. Please feel free to stop by the CCC (Room 246) with questions, as we are happy to help! 

Horatio Alger Scholarship: Application deadline, October 25, 2019 

Provides financial assistance to high school seniors who have shown integrity and perseverance in overcoming personal adversity and plan to enter college the following year. Your application qualifies you for national and state-level scholarships. For the application follow this link

 

Ron Brown Scholarship: Application deadline, November 1, 2019 

The Ron Brown Scholarship advances higher education for community-minded and intellectually gifted African Americans. RBSP competitively awards Ron Brown Scholars four-year $40,000 scholarships ($10,000 each year) to the most talented and economically-challenged high school seniors who demonstrate a keen interest in public service, community engagement, business entrepreneurship and global citizenship. Urban Ventures Act Six Scholarship: Application deadline, November 5, 2019 

Provides full tuition, full need scholarships to Augsburg, Bethel, North Central University, Northwestern (St. Paul, MN), Concordia College, Moorhead and Bethany Lutheran College for 30-40 students each year. Emphasis on diversity and leadership, and looking for students who are eager to foster intercul-tural relations and have a desire to use their college education to make a difference as a leader on cam-pus and in their community. Elks Most Valuable Student: Application deadline, November 5, 2019 

The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks will be awarding over 500 High School Seniors from across the country scholarships in the amount of $2.44 million dollars. At our local Minnesota Lodge, they have given out more than $80,000 in scholarships to seniors. For the application follow this link

 

Women’s Transportation Seminar MN Scholarship: Application deadline, November 9, 2019 

The Women’s Transportation Seminar Minnesota is offering scholarships for women at the graduate, undergraduate and high school level. The 2019 WTS Minnesota scholarships are competitive and are based on the applicant’s specific transportation goals, academic record, and transportation-related ac-tivities or job skills. Applicants from minority backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Financial need is not a primary consideration. For the application follow this link.
