Yusuf highlighted by Trinity College


Trinity College of Hartford, Connecticut sent a photographer South's way to feature illustrious alum Ahmed Yusuf. 

Yusuf, a teacher of Somali Heritage, has written short stories, magazine articles, and plays. His next work, a book "The Lion's Binding Oath..." will be released August of 2018!

Raised in a nomadic upbringing, Ahmed Ismail Yusuf has drawn on life experiences in Somalia and in the U.S. to become an accomplished author and educator. 

Two books:

  • "Gorgorkii Yimi" a collection of short stories in Somali;
  • "Somalis in Minnesota" with the Minnesota Historical Society.

His short stories appeared in:

  • Bildhaan: an International Journal of Somali studies
  • Mizna: an Arab-American literary magazine
  • Warscapes: an online literary magazine. 

Academic papers include:

  • Journal of Muslim Mental Health;
  • Social Psychiatry and Psychiatric Epidemiology;
  • International Society for Traumatic-stress Studies
  • Psychiatry times; and other works in Somali media.


Ahmed’s next book, “The Lion’s Binding Oath and Other Stories,” a collection of short stories will be released in August 2018.

Mr. Yusuf has a B.S. in creative writing and psychology from Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut; and an M.P.A. (Master of Public Affairs) from the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs of the University of Minnesota.  He is a teacher of Somali Heritage at Minneapolis South High School
