Each year, MPS students in grades 9 - 12  have the opportunity to demonstrate proficiency in a World Language other than English on national assessments.

All tests evaluate speaking, reading, writing and listening.

Qualifying students may earn a World Language Proficiency Certificate, with additional endorsements of Gold or Platinum Bilingual Seals for the highest scores.

The Seals are awarded on diplomas upon graduation, and qualify students for credits at MnSCU colleges and universities, as well as recognition at many other institutions.

Platinum Seals indicate proficiency at an Advanced Level.

Gold Seals indicate proficiently at an Intermediate Level.

Certificates indicate communicative proficiency.

In 2016-17, at least* 155 South students earned WL Proficiency Certificates.  Of those, 8 were Platinum and 24 were Gold diploma endorsements, granted at 2017 graduation."  (*Numbers may increase if additional testing restuls are reported later).
