South High in MayDay parade

Dear South High Community:

On behalf of the H-art class, Laura Lanik and Delainia Haug would like to invite you all to Powderhorn Park this Sunday for the MayDay Parade. The H-art class has been partnering with In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater for over 20 years to participate in the MayDay Parade and Celebration.

In our puppetry unit, we spend a month at their theater workshop on Lake street creating puppets and costumes to fit with the social justice themes of the annual community celebration. This year’s theme is “Beloved Community”.

For the first time in the over 20 years of H-art class’ participation, we will march in our own section!  Together, the students brainstormed and created the all of the themes, costumes, and choreography. They also formed a band to perform as we march!

As some of you may have heard, this is the last year HoBT will be leading the parade production, due to financial issues. It would be a great year to come to the parade and cheer us on!
