Drawing I & 2 2023-2024

Course Description

Drawing I is all about making marks in meaningful ways! We will treat this class as a refresher and exploration of art foundations, covering line, shape, space, value, form, texture, and color. We will build on each element to develop our skills as artists. We will also explore the Principles of Art: using  balance, rhythm, pattern, emphasis, contrast, unity, and movement to create great works of art!  We will be using pencil, colored pencil, ink, charcoal, and possibly scratchboard and printmaking.

Drawing 2 will follow the same project order (this will all be different from last semester) but students will be encouraged and challenged to work with multimedia, different materials, at larger scales and with more attention to composition and the principles of art.
