It is time to get going on the high school sports eligibility forms for the upcoming hockey season if you haven't done so already. The season begins with tryouts on October 28, 2019 (schedule posted to the team web site) so there is less than two weeks to get your player's eligibility forms into your high school Athletic Director. The sooner the paperwork is in, the sooner your player will be cleared to play.
The forms for registration may be pulled from the district web site located at (https://athletics.mpls.k12.mn.us/uploads/eligbrochure_7_16_2019_20.pdf).
NOTE: The MPS participation fee for hockey this year is $240. Checks should be made out to MPS Athletics. Dave Wicker, Assistant Director of Athletics, is the MPS Athletic Department contact person for the hockey program. The District Athletic Office would prefer that all checks be brought to the first tryout and given directly to Dave Wicker at the rink rather than given to your school's Athletic Director. Dave will be at tryouts the first three days collecting checks and making sure players are cleared (eligible) to play. Financial assistance is available to those who need it. Please contact your school's Athletic Director to discuss financial assistance.
Minneapolis Public Schools District Athletics is proud to announce that Minneapolis Hockey Cheerleading, a modern, feminist, anti-racist cheerleading squad supporting Minneapolis High School Hockey’s Boys, Girls and Adaptive teams will be offered this winter. Minneapolis Hockey Cheerleading’s mission is to build school spirit and city-wide pride while advocating for and showcasing ice and ice-originating sports in and around the Minneapolis Public Schools. As a key initiative of the District’s diversity and inclusion plan, the ice cheer team will work collaboratively with teams, fans, schools, and communities to foster a fun, inclusive, and uniquely MPS fan experience to support our amazing Minneapolis High School Hockey teams-- and to bring hockey to new audiences within the Minneapolis Public Schools and the broader communities they serve.
The 2019- 20 Minneapolis Hockey Cheerleading team will be comprised of Minneapolis Public School students some of which are accomplished figure skaters, including several state and regional competitors and medalists. Like Minneapolis High School Adapted and Ice Hockey, Minneapolis Hockey Cheerleading is a cooperative, city-wide effort of all Minneapolis Public Schools. We have current interest from students representing several MPS schools, including Fair, Henry, Roosevelt, Southwest and Washburn. The team continues to solicit students for the 2019-20 season. Skaters must be enrolled in Minneapolis Public Schools, grades 7-12, and must be compliant with Minnesota State High School League requirements. Please contact Coach Anne Cross (text only) at 612-750-6645 or email: crossa@mac.com with any questions and to register for tryouts. In the interest of expanding the team’s reach and impact, skaters from Edison, Henry, North, South, and Roosevelt are especially encouraged to tryout.
