Room 134B

Hi all!  For the 2023-2024 school year, we are combining our 9th and 10th grade cohorts for an exploration of us History (this will show up on schedules and transcripts as U.S. History).  The class will focus on narratives, discussion, and analysis of primary sources, all centered around the main theme of sovereignty.

For 11th graders, I’ll be teaching World History, which is a big subject!  We will be studying a wide range of topics, but all will be focused on answering this HUGE question:

How did the world come to be the way it is?

About Me:

After dropping out of college in the early 2000s, I spent most of the next 15 years cooking in restaurants and catering events.  Eventually, I decided to return to school-I graduated with a B.A. in History from the U of M Twin Cities in 2017.  I then attended Augsburg University for a Master of Arts in Teaching, graduating just after starting at South High in 2021.

I’m a history nerd, and I’ve spent a LOT of time doing it the way it’s taught in most of our colleges and universities.  I want our students to be just as ready to challenge those ways of looking at the world as they are to enthusiastically participate in the methods and practices of collegiate History.  Those methods simply aren’t the only way to learn about the past!  Many cultures see the past as a living thing, and we will be exploring that mindset alongside doing research with primary sources.
