Lettering
At South High, we recognize outstanding student achievement in Academics, Arts, Athletics and Clubs by the award of a letter.
  • For a first lettering achievement, students are awarded a cloth letter by South High School.
  • Subsequent lettering achievements are each recognized with a certificate.
  • The certificate may authorize the letter earner to purchase, if he or she wishes, a patch, a bar or medal.
  • Below is the criteria by which a letter may be earned: 
Academic Letter
  • Students at all grade levels are eligible each year.
  • Students must achieve and maintain a 3.7 GPA (Grade Point Average) first, second and third quarter of the school year.

Arts - Music Letter
  • Students must be registered in a performance ensemble.
  • Students must accumulate 45 points in one school year.
  • Students must track point earnings on this Music Letter Log Sheet.
  • Students must turn in log sheet to teacher.
  • Some points are variable and the teacher will make the point determination.
  • Students may letter each year in a music class.

Arts - Theater Letter
  • Students must contribute, as cast or crew, to 9 plays over the course of a high school career. 
  • With three productions per year, it is possible for students to letter by junior year.

Arts - Dance Letter
  • Students must maintain an "A" average in dance classes.
  • Students must perform in 6 shows.
  • Students must be lead choreographer in at least one dance performance.

Athletic Letter
  • Coaches determine criteria for each respective sport at the beginning of the season.
  • Criteria is handed out to players and posted to team website.
  • Letter recipients are announced at the end of the season.
