Johnson began coaching while he was still in high school, working with phenomenal organizations and schools over the years.

Locally, he's been affiliated with Gitchi Gummi, Fridley HS, Chaska HS, and Minneapolis United. Recently, he's also had the privilege of being the General Manager for a professional division 4 soccer team--Minneapolis City SC.

In accepting the job at South, Johnson said, “It's with great honor that I accept the position as Head Coach of Men’s Soccer. Thank you for entrusting me with South High School student athletes.”

He added that he recognizes south soccer has a lengthy and impressive history.  “My hope is to build on what a great program already exists--focusing on character building, and both physical and academic development of our student athletes.”

With the help of coaching staff, parents and student athletes, Coach Johnson hopes to develop the South High soccer program into a multi-year structure and instill a lifelong passion for soccer.

Athletic Director Brett McNeal adds, "We are thrilled to have Derric as part of the South High School Athletic Program."
