AP Rodriguez

Ms. Rodriguez comes to us with a solid background as a teacher with a deep understanding of bilingual education and commitment to students.

She sends South families her warmest regards and this introduction:

Hello, My name is Isabel Rodriguez. I’m excited to join the staff at South High as your newest Assistant Principal. I come to you as a Minnesota State University doctoral candidate, with a master’s degree in TESOL from St. Thomas University in Florida; and as a 9-year ESOL/Spanish teaching veteran at Shattuck Saint Mary’s. I am also the mother of four.

I was born and raised in the tropical island of Puerto Rico. In 1991, I left at the age of 23, with a cosmetology license and with about 3 years of college credits. Once in sunny Miami, Florida and after many haircuts and pedicures, I decided to go back to college. As an English learner, I relate to the struggles and challenges of coming to a new country. Learning a new language and new culture is a dichotomy phenomenon. It can be a very exciting process, yet very scary and sometimes painful.  It is important for me that I make an effort to make a difference and ensure this learning process for all the students and families at SHS is a positive, enriching, and worthwhile experience.

On a more personal note, it was the sport of hockey, believe it or not, that brought me to Minnesota. Ask me about that some time! Also glad to say, I have happily raised my family in Minnesota for the last 10 years. My husband is Larry works in the food distribution business after serving the country as a U.S. Navy Seabee.

I look forward to meeting families. Glad to be a Tiger!

Ms. Rodriguez
