No school, Friday and Monday

Tigers, we're at the halfway point. Thursday marks the end of first semester, followed by no school, Friday, Jan. 17 and Monday, Jan. 20--for teacher record-keeping, and the King holiday. Enjoy the time off. Second semester begins, Tuesday, Jan. 21.

Come early for new schedules, Tuesday

Second semester schedule pick-up begins at 7:45 a.m., Tuesday, Jan. 21 in the auditorium. Students without a 1st or 2nd hour class, may pick up schedules in the main office.

Academic Planning Night, Feb. 4

Minnesota Law: Parents get time off

Minnesota law requires employers to grant parents and guardians time off to attend conferences or school activities with timely notice. If needed, you may print this letter to accompany a request for time off, or get it at conferences for verification.| See MN statute.

VOICES film fest set for Jan. 23

Screen the in-depth work of South High student documentarians at the VOICES film festivalThursday, Jan 23, 6-8 p.m. in the South High Auditorium. Nine films that promise to make you think will be featured on an array of social justice topics. Film line-up to come!

Set a reminder for early morning ACT practice test

Juniors, ACT Practice Test #2 is three weeks away. Plan to come to school early, Wednesday, Feb. 5, 7:30 a.m. Testing ends at noon. No sign-up necessary. This is a chance to take a practice test, if you missed the first one, or see how you improved from the last one!

Step UP to make money, get career experience

The Step Up application for summer internships is now open to students who reside in Minneapolis, and will be 14-21 years of age by June 1. See other eligibility requirements at the link above. Applications due Feb. 10. Email Ikram Mohamud with questions, or call 612.455.1553.

Free "ACT for all" set for March

At South High, all 11th graders will take the ACT college entrance exam Tuesday, March 24. Please note, while the test is free, "pre-bubbling" is required and will take place in English classes, or at student's convenience with Ms. McMillen, before test day! | What is pre-bubbling?
