What is Adapted Athletics?

Adapted Athletics is an invaluable experience both socially and athletically. We are a varsity athletic team that competes for State Championships, and is sanctioned under the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL). The team is made up of student from 7th to 12th grade.

Our team competes in 3 sports. Soccer in the fall, Floor Hockey in the winter, and Softball in the spring. All sports are played inside on gym surfaces. The rules for each sport are adapted to accommodate our athletes.

Steps to Join

  1. Contact/email a coach
  2. Complete physical with clinic or at South High School Clinic
  3. Fill out and return all forms (emergency and MSHSL eligibility form)
  4. Explore website for information

Philosophy

The philosophy of the Physically Impaired Adaptive Athletics Team is to provide a safe and fun experience for students with special needs to participate in competitive athletics. To provide coaching, learning, and skill development through contact with supportive adults and peers. To enhance the student’s social experiences with practices, games, sportsmanship, and friendships that are experienced in a team environment.

 

Eligibility:

*Potential athletes must qualify for the physically impaired division of adapted sports, and be cleared to play with a sport physical.

*Potential athletes must be able to function and dress independently.

*Potential athletes must be able handle transportation requirements.

*Potential athletes must be able to handle loud environments and physical play.
