What is GEAR UP?

GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federally funded college access program located within the Minneapolis Public School District serving 2,395 students across 5 high schools. The goal of GEAR UP is to ensure that students graduate from high school and pursue post-secondary education. We provide programs and services such as college visits, financial education, tutoring, mentoring, parent engagement, and counseling to help students achieve their dreams of going to college.

Who are GEAR UP Students?

All 12th Grade Students: GEAR UP staff follow a cohort of students beginning in 6th & 7th grades through their first year of postsecondary education. This 2020-2021 school year, GEAR UP staff will be working with only 12th grade students in the final year of our grant. 12th grade students at South are automatically a part of the GEAR UP program, no registration or application necessary.

The GEAR UP Coordinators' office is open daily from 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM; we are located in Room 249B between the College & Career Center (CCC) and Counseling Offices. Stop by during your lunch or free period to talk about your post secondary options!
