Be a host family for a week!

German Partner School Visit to South High School

Oct. 30 - Nov. 11, 2016

Host families for 16 students urgently needed!

South High has maintained a partner-school relationship with Gymnasium Farmsen (GYFA) in Hamburg, Germany since 2000.  And, once again, 20 students and two teachers will be visiting South to observe classes and experience American lifestyles in an immersive setting.

Host families are asked to provide a bed, breakfast and dinner meals, and inclusion in family activities for 12 nights beginning Oct. 30.

  • Students have their own spending money, speak conversational English, and are mostly sophomores.
  • All participants are mature and were hand-selected for inclusion in the program.
  • GYFA students will shadow South students and have a robust afternoon field trip schedule.
  • Host students will be invited to participate in a wealth of intercultural exchange events, including the European Adventure over spring break during which we will visit our partner-school in Hamburg (GYFA).
  • Being a shadow-guide for guests at South is optional, and weekend/weeknight schedule conflicts are solvable with double-ups and alternate accommodation arrangements for guests.

Sixteen of the 20 students still require placement.  They are a multicultural group of both male and female students.  If interested, or have family and friends in the neighborhood who might be interested, please contact Arthur French @ (612) 270-5468 or email:

  • Host students do not need to speak or be taking German.
  • All South families are welcome to participate.
  • There is a portfolio of guest profiles and pictures in the German Class, in room 327 for viewing.
  • Please contact Arthur very soon to take part in this engaging and educational exchange event!

A host meeting night will be announced shortly in preparation for the visit.

Thank you in advance for your interest!
