Austrian students visit South

South High World Language teacher Mr. Arthur French has been the driving force behind our successful cultural exchange with Austrian Partner School, Graz International Bilingual School (GIBS). He's chaperoned trips overseas to Austria and Germany, and coordinated visits here at South, nurturing an enriched academic and cultural experience far and wide.

More on this week's visit, from Mr. French:

The faculty, Dr. Martina Pfistermueller-Czar and her co-chaperone Mr. Gerhard Froelich, have brought 21 students who will be shadowing students at South on Tuesday and Wednesday this week, as well as Monday next week. In between, the students will experience Minnesota/US culture beyond the classroom.

The GIBS-South High relationship has been an active exchange now for the last five years, with April visits by GIBS and March visits by South during Spring Break. Many host students stay in contact with their Austrian partners and visit them in the summer.

South also has an active German partner school in Hamburg, Gymnasium Farmsen (GYFA), which has been active since 2001.  GYFA will visit South this coming fall in October.

Families and students we are grateful for your support during these exchanges. They would not be possible without you, particularly our host families. Thank you!
