About Me: This is my eighth year teaching, and I currently teach in the OPEN program here at South. I've always been passionate about history and I love getting to share that with my students. My favorite areas of history are the history of Ireland, WWII history, and women's studies. Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my friends, being outside, traveling, and reading.
About My Teaching: I think education is one of the most important things in creating change in the world. As part of the OPEN program, I don't use points in my classroom. Students are evaluated on the quality of their work, their engagement in class, and their level of comprehension of the concepts we cover. The goal of this approach is to help students make a more meaningful connection to what they are learning rather than simply "getting a grade."
Google Classroom: Specific details for all of my classes are posted on Google Classroom.
At South, students take US history as sophomore. I teach this class thematically, and the students are able to delve into significant concepts in US history while also developing a strong understanding of the course of American history.
This is a senior elective that explores the global conflict spanning from 1914 - 1990. The course explores more than just the military engagements: we also look at the social, economic, and political impact of the war.
AP Human Geography is offered to both juniors and seniors. In this class, we explore various factors that affect human development, population, and movement. Students have the option of taking the AP test, which is happening on May 5, 2020.
