Marcus Acha: Class of 2019…..Wears #12…..6’2”, 210 pounds…..Fourth season playing basketball for South…..…..Also plays Baseball…..Named Most Valuable Player of the B-Squad basketball team in 2016-2017…..Named Most Valuable Player for the Freshman Baseball team…..He loves the competitiveness that basketball players bring whenever they step on the court. He also says that there are many little details one must be aware of when playing basketball as well as a lot of layers in the game that are hard to do correctly…..He is proud that he has never lost to Edina in his life.

Named Most Valuable Offensive Player in football for 2018 season…..Named to the All-District football team…..Also plays Football (two years) and runs Track (one year)…..He loves the team’s mindset and the competition the game fosters as well as the camaraderie and intensity of the game…..He enjoys playing video games and believes he can beat anyone in the 2K part of trollifam.

He earned the “Tiger Award” in football (2016 season)…..Also plays Baseball (two years) and Football (Four years)…..names to the All-District Football Team…..He loves playing basketball because of the closeness of the teammates, who make the game fun. His biggest academic achievement is being named an All-State Academic.

First season playing basketball for South…..He has always loved the game because it distracts him from the negative things he could possibly get into if he was not involved in basketball. It is important because basketball is more than just dribbling and shooting. It can give many life lessons such as how to deal with adversity…..He is proud that he has been on the “B” Honor Roll.

Jaylen Blakley: Class of 2020…..Wears #10.....5’7”, 127 pounds…..Fourth season playing basketball for South…..Earned one letter (basketball)…..Also runs Track…..To Jaylen, basketball is a lifestyle. You have to completely immerse yourself in the game to be successful. He has grown up with love for the game and has always been drawn to basketball…..His biggest athletic accomplishment is earning his letter AND receiving letters from colleges that may be interested in recruiting him to play in the future…..His biggest academic accomplishment is participating in the Upward Bound Program all three years he has been at South. (Upward Bound is a program which encourages and prepares high school students for the rigors of college.)

Seamus Hegarty: Class of 2020…..Wears #22.....6’3”, 180 pounds…..Third season playing basketball for South…..Named Most Improved Player on the B-Squad for the 2016-17 season…..Also runs Cross Country…..He really enjoys his teammates on the basketball team. His teammates make the game fun to play…..He tries to work his hardest and loves the challenge that basketball gives him. Basketball has helped him progress through his young life both physically and mentally…..He is academically proud that he has constantly been on the High Honor Roll and takes classes that are challenging.

Jack Hennen: Graduating Class of 2020…..Student Manager…..First season as manager for the basketball team…..He has run cross country (one season), played soccer (two seasons), and baseball (two seasons)….. Earned two letters (one each in cross country and baseball)…..Named Most Improved player in baseball during the 2017-2018 school year…..Athletically, he is proud that he made two varsity teams during his freshman year (both baseball and cross country)…..Academically, he is proud of the 3.7 cum Grade Point Average.

He believes basketball is fun, and since he is tall, he can rebound, and he loves rebounding over other people…..He is extremely proud of earning two letters, especially since one was earned during his sophomore year when most people are only playing on Junior Varsity teams…..He has been on the “B” Honor Roll or higher every quarter of his high school career.

It came natural to him…..Basketball is a very mental game as it is physical. One bad plan can cost the team a game…..His biggest athletic achievement came when he played on an out-of-state tournament and was named the Most Valuable Player while his team took home the championship…..He is extremely proud of being named to the “A” Honor Roll.

He is attracted to basketball for the competition, which allows him to push himself to become a better player and person. One of the ways he has become a better person is the dedication it takes to play the game has been transferred to other aspects of his life…..He is proudest of being named to the Honor Roll.

Tiger Worku: Class of 2020…..Student Manager…..Second season as a manager for South basketball…..He loves the challenge of keeping statistics because every player seems to believe that the better the statistics are, the better of a player they are …..He is very active in both his community and school, serving as president of the Muslim Student Association, winning the Minnesota State Chess Championship tournament and being a political junkie…..He also has participated in various long distance races and has won a 8K race……His biggest accomplishment in school is that he is planning to run for the Class of 2020’s Senior Class President.

He believes grade are extremely important, ad to demonstrate this he has a 3.98 Grade Point Average.

James Misterek: Graduating Class of 2022…..Wears #11….. 5’ 9”, 135 pounds…..First season playing basketball for South…..Also plays soccer…..He is amazed at the difference between the two sports he plays. In basketball you expect to get the ball every time down the court, but in soccer, 97% of the time you will NOT have the ball……His biggest athletic accomplishment was winning a State Soccer championship and lettering in 8th grade. He also attended a National College Soccer Showcase…..He is extremely proud of his 3.95 Grade Point Average. He never missed being on the Honor Roll in Middle School and plans to continue it in High School.
