The 2000-2001 Tiger gymnastics team showed their strength with a series of athletic, graceful, mind-boggling feats.  This year’s team consisted of ladies with all levels of experience and from 8th grade through 12th grade.  Head Coach Jennifer Kolback and her assistant, Jon Douville, again led the Tigers.  Seniors Katherine Balcom, Erin Halverson and Lindsay Smith were the team’s captains.

The team started with a meet against Washburn.  The Millers were no match for the Tigers.  South won easily, 133.18-93.45.  Roosevelt lost by over 90 points, 130-925-39.4!  Henry/North was the third team to fall, 132.4-85.45.  Edison also went down 130.75-62.8.

The closest meet of the year was against Southwest.  The Lakers were the only conference team to score over 100 points during the season.  However, the Tigers still out-classed their opponents and won 131-120.35.

South participated in two non-conference tournaments.  In the Minnesota Gymnastics Officials Association tournament, the Tigers finished in sixth place.  At the Maple Grove Invitational, South finished third.

South and Southwest represented Minneapolis in the Twin City meet against St. Paul Highland Park and Cretin-Derham Hall.  South won the meet with 140.75 points.  Highland Park finished a very close second with 140.125.  Cretin, 134.475 and Southwest 118.6, finished third and fourth respectively.

For the second time, South won the Region 5AA meet and advanced to the State Tournament.  In the Region meet, the Tigers scored 140.9 points.
