“Fundamentals.  Strategy.  Teamwork.  Play with your head.  Play with finesse. This was the cord of head coach Paul Blair’s philosophy for the Women’s Volleyball team,” according to the 1990 South Yearbook.

South opened the season with three non-conference matches.  Shakopee, the first opponent, won easily, 3-0.  In an even match, South and Blake were tied after four games, with the Tigers pulling out the fifth game and the win.  South had a little easier time with St. Paul Academy, winning 3-0.

The Conference season opened with a disappointing loss to Washburn 3-0.  South bounced back against a tough Edison team and won 3-1.  An even tougher team, Southwest, fell to the Tigers 3-2.

South fell to eventual champion Roosevelt 3-0.  Henry also defeated the Tigers 3-2.

South defeated North for their last win of the season 3-0.

Losses to both Washburn and Roosevelt by 3-0 scores left the Tigers with two matches remaining.

In their final non-conference match, DeLaSalle defeated the Tigers 3-2.

In the final match of the season, Southwest avenged their earlier loss with a 3-2 win over the Tigers.

South finished the season with a 3-6 conference record, in sixth place.  Overall, the Tigers were 5-8.

Head Coach Paul Blair was assisted by Kevin Anderson.
