The South Wrestling program was once again under-going change.  Maurice Webert became head coach.  Mr. Webert was an assistant coach in the early 1960’s for the Tigers.  Mr. Converse was the assistant coach.  Dan Carlson, 119 pounds, was named to the All-Conference Second Team.

The highlights of the season were a second place finish in the Anoka Tournament and a fifth place finish at the Edina East Invitational.

In conference play, South won only one match.  They started the season losing to Edison, 60-12, and North, 43-21, before winning their only conference match against West, 42-24.

The remainder of the conference schedule had the following teams beating the Tigers: Southwest, 35-29, Henry, 39-21, Central, 41-23, Roosevelt, 58-3, and Washburn 52-12.

In non-conference matches, South defeated Benilde-St. Margaret’s 30-27 and Brady 72-0.  The 72 points scored against Brady is the most every scored by a South team in either conference or non-conference matches.  The Tigers lost too St. Paul Central 37-24 and Fridley 52-9.

In Region 5AA team competition, South faced conference foe Washburn in the first round and lost 54-11. In the Region individual competition, Mario and Mike Golzalez advanced to the State Tournament.

For the first time, there is a complete record of conference meets for the JV team.  They finished with a 1-7 record, defeating West 42-0.  The JV team lost to Edison 54-6, North 42-9, Southwest 48-12, Henry 30-9, Central 30-12, Roosevelt 66-6 and Washburn 48-0.
