After last season’s success, the Tiger Cross Country team, led by Coach Warren Kaari, believed they would be contenders for the conference title.  However, belief and actual truth are two different things. Kaari was in his 10th season leading the squad

South opened the season with a shocking loss to North.  The Polars easily handled the Tigers, 16-40.  Roosevelt also handed the Tigers a loss, 19-36.

South turned things around with two non-conference meets.  Both were closely contested.  South defeated Ellsworth, WI 24-31, followed with a 25-30 defeat of River Falls, WI.

South returned to conference play, and lost the next three meets.  Washburn won 30-43.  Edison won 22-37.  Southwest won 19-42.

South’s first conference win of the season was an 18-38 victory over West.  The season ended with a 21-35 loss to Henry and a 23-34 win over Central.

With expectations high at the start of the season, no one expected a 2-6 conference record.  Overall the Tigers were 4-6.

With the regular season over, the Tigers participated in the annual Conference Meet.  Like the regular season, South finished a disappointing seventh.  Melvin Alvarez was South’s best finisher, coming in at 27th place.
