The 1976-1977 South wrestlers, as a team, did not have a winning season.  Even though there were several outstanding individuals, the team finished with a 4-11 record for the year, 3-5 in conference matches.

The conference season started out with a 10 point victory over Central, 37-27.  But, things seemed to go bad for the Tigers after that win.  Washburn, 39-23, Roosevelt 34-22, and North, 34-24, all defeated South.

The next win came against West, with a 48-21 victory.  However, Edison piled up the points on the way to a 53-11 win.  The 33-26 victory over Henry would be the last conference win of the season. Southwest defeated the Tigers 31-25 in the last conference match.

In non-conference play, the Tigers beat Benilde-St. Margaret’s 42-21, but lost all the other non-conference matches, including losing to Rochester John Marshall 45-15, Fridley Grace 45-12 and Edina West 37-20.

Junior Mike St. Clair placed high in the Region meet and advanced to the State Tournament.
