Hopes were high for a good season.  Warren Kaari, head coach of the team, expected the Tigers to be very competitive.

South finished the season with a 9-2 record in dual meets.  Only seven of the meet scores were reported.  All were wins.  South defeated Roosevelt 20-44. North fell 19-44.  Washburn was baked 22-34.  Henry went down 15-41.  West tried to hang on but fell 27-29.  In non-conference events, South defeated St. Paul Harding 18-40 and River Falls WI 18-45.

In the Conference Meet, which also doubled as the District 17 meet, the Tigers finished in second place.  Only defending State Champions Southwest finished ahead of the Tigers.  Three Tigers finished in the top 20, Earl Smith, eighth, Mike Zimmer, 16th, and Bill Fintel, 17th.  Edgar Alvarez finished just out of the top 20, coming in 23rd.

Because of their finish in the District/Conference Meet, the Tigers participated in the Region Meet.  They finished in seventh place.

At the end of the season, Coach Warren Kaari was named “Coach of the Year” in Cross Country.
