As the new football season began, the team hoped to improve over last season’s finish.  Coaches Lester Barnard and Al Pihlstrom had the responsibility to turn the young men into a cohesive team.

South opened the season against the Patriots from Henry.  Henry played a good defense.  South really did not threaten to score.  Henry won 14-0.

South faced Washburn in their next game and evened their record at 1-1.  Washburn was no match for South as the South defense limited the Millers to one score.  The Tigers won 25-6.

South took on Southwest for the Tigers homecoming game.  The Tigers rose to the occasions and beat Southwest in a shutout, 13-0.

The season seemed to be one of ups and downs and the Tiger went on a downturn.  Marshall and South played a close game, with the Cardinals winning 13-6.  This game was a double loss for the Tigers when co-captain Pat Martin suffered a season-ending injury.

Central took apart the Tiger defense and completely stopped their offense on their way to a 26-0 win.

South ended the season on a up-note, winning a defensive struggle against North, 7-0, then easily beating Vocational 25-6 in the season’s last game.

Co-Captain Mark Colloton was named to the second team All-Conference squad at guard.
