South High Class of 2017

South High welcomed back 1992 alum and acclaimed author Kelly Barnhill, winner of the 2017 Newbery Medal. She delivered a commencement address celebrating South as "wondrously strange," a quality she credits with developing empathy, uncertainty, inventiveness and curiosity as tools for success. Barnhill is not only winner of the highest award in children's literature, she is mother to SHS student, Cora and newly minted grad, Ella '17.
