Nov. 11, 2016

Dear South High Families:  A few important items to share with you.

Impact of the election at South.
As a school rich in diversity, the rhetoric of the Presidential election has challenged our values of inclusion and acceptance again and again.
The outcome, even moreso.
As always, we are dedicated to maintaining South as a safe, nurturing environment. Any student who feels the need to talk is encouraged to reach out to any teacher, counselor, social worker or trusted adult.
This week, the Peace Tigers have encouraged fellow students to express their thoughts in writing about the election. Those expressions are posted in the commons. The exercise has been deeply profound for writers and readers. Thank you to all students for sharing.
Walk out this afternoon.
We’ve been informed that Twin Cities high school students are planning a walk out this afternoon at the start of 6th hour.
The destination is the US Bank Stadium Park--4th and Portland, one block from U.S. Bank Stadium.
We support our students' right to free speech and protest.
However, choosing to protest, means choosing to miss school and accepting the consequence of an unexcused absence.
Leaving the safety and security of school poses other unknown consequences.
Fall Music Concert Series
Tonight, we feature performances by the Concert, Treble, Bass and Varsity Choirs and the South High Pop Singers.
Monday, Jazz Band performances wrap up this annually inspiring series.
Main Entrance Temporarily Relocated
Monday morning, the Welcome Desk will be temporarily stationed at Door #17, accessible via the north side/32nd street side of the building.
Door 1 and nearby areas of the parking lot WILL NOT be accessible on the 31st street side of the building, due to crane maintenance work.
Staff will be on site directing students to the alternate entrance.

We expect to resume use of the Door #1 main entrance and exit before end of the day.
NAFID Events
Native American Family Involvement Day is next week. Please check our website this weekend for the schedule of events.

Junior Night
Next Tuesday, the class of 2018 and their families will have the opportunity to meet with our team of counselors in the auditorium. This is your night to gain guidance and insight on your journey to graduation and life beyond high school.
Have a restful weekend, Tigers!
