Last spring, the MPS school board approved changes to graduation requirements for incoming 9th graders. The board also approved a new way of counting class credits which affects all high school students.
The change in requirements for the class of 2019, and classes to follow, offer students more flexibility in choosing courses that interest them and match their postsecondary plans.
In simplifying the way course credits are computed, the new credit total required for graduation is 21.5 credits. One year-long course=1 credit; one semester course=.5 credit. Current sophomores, juniors and seniors may have seen new values attached to their courses in the portal, this is in keeping with the new 21.5 credits required to graduate.
