The South High School Men's Soccer Program is headed by Tamba Johnson and includes four teams with nearly 80 student athletes. Each team is lead by an assistant coach and fields 16-20 players. The four teams are:

  • Varsity: 9th - 12th graders.  Click here for 2012 season record.

Schedule and Bus Time Updates/Team Names
Wednesday, September 04, 2013 11:50 PM

NEWS:  We have changed the names of the developmental teams to better align with the naming conventions of other schools against which we compete:

FRESHMAN team will be also known as the 9A squad (some of our opponents also call it C Squad)
SOPHOMORE team will be also known as the B Squad (this is consistent with other HS teams)

FRESHMAN game on Thursday, Sept 5 is canceled and will be rescheduled.  This is a Jewish High Holy Day, and all district athletic events and meetings are canceled for this date.  Not all players and families are on our email lists, so please forward that information to the booster club and/or anyone that is willing to be the freshman team parent.

SOPHOMORE team has a game added on Wednesday, Sept 11 AT Champlin Park.  Game time is 4pm.  Buses leave South at 2:45 pm PROMPTLY.  Students will be excused early.  Be sure to send both jerseys, black socks, cleats, shinguards, plenty of water and snacks if possible.  Not all players and families are on our email lists, so please forward that information to the booster club and/or anyone that is willing to be the sophomore team parent.

Stay tuned regarding Super Soccer Saturday games.  We are checking to see if there are buses.  In prior years, players had to arrange their own transportation.  Games are at 10, and players should be at the field 30-45 minutes before game time.  Check with the coaches for specifics, and let teammates know if players need help with a ride to the field.  The light rail station stop is about 1/2 mile from the nearest field at Ft. Snelling.  Just head south through the Park N Ride lot and cross Bloomington Road.

Booster Club Membership Fees Support South Soccer!
Friday, August 23, 2013 12:00 PM

The Booster Club is a volunteer organization that supports the tradition of South soccer by augmenting funding from the school district. South High fields four men's teams: the Varsity, the Junior Varsity, the A team (sophomore) and the B Team (freshmen). Besides supporting the entire Soccer program, the Booster Club funds all the activities of the A and B teams. All teams and players benefit from a strong feeder program. The suggested membership fee is $80, in addition to the $60 soccer fee paid to the school district. No student, however, will be denied the opportunity to play based on the ability to pay this fee. Please pay what you can afford, and make every effort to assist with the fundraising activities.
