ALL Juniors report to the YWCA, Feb. 28

The school day, for 11th graders, will begin and end at the YWCA Tuesday, Feb. 28.
Students will be taking the American College Test required for admission to many colleges.

Quick notes:

  • Juniors do not need to sign up for this test; the test is free.
  • Seniors may test if they haven't taken the ACT.
  • All test-takers do need to complete pre-administrative paperwork.
  • Pre-administration is Feb. 21, 22, or 23, after school, with Ms. McMillen
  • Seniors must contact Ms. McMillen to get on the testing roster.

Students planning to take Advanced Placement exams are asked to get these dates on their calendars:

  • Sign up begins Wednesday Feb. 1- Feb. 27.
  • Exams are the first two weeks in May. See FAQs for important details.
Ash Farah wins Beat the Odds Scholarship

Annually, the Children’s Defense Fund of Minnesota recognizes students who've achieved academically, overcoming adversity at the same time. This year, South High's Ash Farah has won the honor for his story of courage, determination and hope. It comes with a $5,000 scholarship.

South students named National Merit Finalists

South's five semi-finalists have now all advanced to the finalist stage for prestigious national merit honorsElla Barnhill, Josiah Ferguson, Elwood Olson, Townesend Nelson and Eliza Roberts are in the finalist pool vying for $2500 scholarshp awards and the honor of Merit Scholar.

Registration timeline has NEW DATES

In February, current freshman, sophomores and juniors will be preparing to select classes for next school year. Below is the timeline for students and parents. Please take time to discuss choices with family, teachers and your counselor.
● Counselors distribute materials in English classes Thursday, March 2; Friday, March 3.
● Students without an English class should see their counselor.
● Families encouraged to discuss course choices. 
Students meet with counselors — Monday, March 6 - Friday, March 17.
