Music Firewood extravaganza THIS SATURDAY

Get your firewood! Pre-orders and drop-ins welcome this Saturday in the South High parking lot. At $10 a bundle, select Oak, Maple or Elder--all burn cleaner than Pine. Proceeds support music trip to D.C. Music and cider make this annual event an SHS party you won't want to miss! | Flier.

State of the School meeting set for October

Hear about successes and challenges at South High School when staff and families convene for the Title One State of the School meeting Oct. 17 | 6 p.m. | Conference Room 149.

PSAT registration open now

Juniors, PSAT Registration is open to you, exclusively, through Friday, Sept. 22. After that, sophomores are welcome to sign up for testing. Both grade levels will then have until the end of the month to register.

  • Registration closes for all just before midnight, Sunday, Oct. 1.

Governor's Council selects South student

Senior Rakeb Max has been named to the Governor's Young Women's Cabinet-- an advisory group aimed at improving lives of young women. Blind since she was 4, Rakeb excels in and out of the classroom. She attended GWU this summer and regularly racks up debate wins. Read more.

SHS showing exceptional in WL awards

South High students claimed 174 awards for demonstrating proficiency in languages, other than English, on national language assessments. In all, South students earned 29 Gold Seals, 7 Platinum Seals, and 138 Certificates for proficiency. Read more.

Mulhern named National Merit Semifinalist

Based on her outstanding performance on the PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test), Senior Anna Mulhern has been named a National Merit Semifinalist. This puts her in contention for the National Merit honors. In February Finalists are selected, from that field Scholars are chosen and announced in May, June and July.

South teacher named Educator of the Year

Social Studies teacher Richard Nohel was named High School Educator of the Year by Uppermidwest Junior Achievement. The award comes on the heels of his students' win of the JA Titan Business Challenge last spring, the first ever for a Minneapolis school. See more.
