FAQs

I'm really new to chess. Should I go to this tournament?
Absolutely! Check It Out is often a student's first tournament. We will have folks on hand to help players (and families) learn more about rules and strategy so they can improve.

Do I need to bring my own chess set?
No, chess sets will be provided for tournament play.

Do I need to notate or write down my moves?
No, notation is not required. But if you want to learn how to do it, we'll teach you!

Are you really offering a free Gold membership to ChessKid.com?
Yes! Gold memberships provide more resources than the free version. ChessKid.com will allow students to continue to learn chess at their own pace.
