This afternoon, some of our South High students chose to close the school day in a spirit of peaceful protest. All went smoothly.
Student-led efforts by Stand Up Speak Out South High (SUSOSH) began the 7th hour of the day with a hallway sit-in and an ask for space to protest and process current events related to Jamar Clark.
It is our privilege always to support our students, and we made the commons area available.
Following a short march throughout the building, students expressed concerns, related personal experiences and listened to and supported one another with an admirable degree of respect.
Monday, at the request of students, we set up space in the media center for similar conversations with student social justice leaders and South staff.
South families, we continue to be inspired by your children and recognize them as both students and teachers. Today, we are grateful for the lessons they have taught.
