Laurie Meyers

Welcome to the Vocal Music Program at South!  We invite you on-board as a singer, as an audience member, or as a supportive parent, staff member, or community member.  We look forward to meeting you at concerts and in the classroom in Room 202.

Laurie Meyers directs four choirs at South High School.  Ms. Meyers holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Drake University and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Nova Southeastern University.  She has been teaching vocal music since 1998 and is passionate about giving all students opportunities to sing and share the music within them. 

Most of Ms. Meyers' teaching has taken place in various schools in the Minneapolis Public Schools, but she has also taught with

the Edison Project and at Eastview High School.  She is grateful for her collaborative and talented teaching colleagues in the music department at South.

Ms. Meyers is a member of the American Choral Director's Association and the National Association for Music Education, and has taught private voice and piano lessons in her personal studio in the past.  Ms. Meyers also taught English at a girls school in Jordan as a Peace Corps Volunteer.  Ms. Meyers currently cantors at her church and enjoys gardening and finding new recipes to share with her family.  She lives in Minneapolis with her husband and three children.  She misses her native state of Colorado but is greatly inspired by the performing arts culture in the Twin
