Laurie Meyers

Laurie Meyers directs four choirs at South High School.  Ms. Meyers holds a Bachelor of Music Education from Drake University and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Nova Southeastern University.  She has been teaching vocal music since 1998 and is passionate about giving all students opportunities to sing and share the music within them.  Most of Ms. Meyers' teaching has taken place in various schools in the Minneapolis Public Schools, but she has also taught with the Edison Project and at Eastview High School.  She is grateful for her collaborative and talented teaching colleagues in the music department at South, and learns about life and teaching from them every day.

Ms. Meyers is a member of the American Choral Director's Association and the National Association for Music Education, and

has taught private voice and piano lessons in her personal studio in the past.  Ms. Meyers continues to learn about Islam, Arabic, and the Jordanian culture, having previously served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Jordan.  Ms. Meyers currently cantors at her church and enjoys gardening and finding new recipes to share with her family.  She lives in Minneapolis with her husband and three children, and as a native of Colorado, she is continuing to learn and explore the heritage, arts, and culture of the Twin Cities.
