A veteran group returned to the Tiger Cross Country team for the 2016-2017 season.  This groups welcomed a new groups of freshmen to round out the team

South opened the season hosting the Tiger Invitational.  After a number of seasons of not winning, the Tigers finally brought home the trophy of their own meet.  Henry Holcomb, who finished fourth, was the best Tiger finisher.

After an eight day break, South travelled to Faribault.  The team finished 17th with Henry Holcomb again the best South finisher.

The Minneapolis and St. Paul schools participated in the Twin City Challenge.  South finished sixth as a team with Henry Holcomb finishing 13th, the best for a Tiger runner.

A quick drive to Anoka saw the Tigers participate in the Rum River Invitational.  The Tigers finished 16th with Henry Holcomb again finishing as the best Tiger runner.

At the Maple Grove Mustang Invitational, the Tigers came in 10th.  John Groos led the Tiger runners.

At the Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota, South finished 23rd in the Maroon Division.  Junior Mahamed Salad finished 15th in a field that featured some of the best high school runners in the country.

A three hour ride to Duluth in order to participate in the Swain Invitational.  The Tigers finished in 12th place with Mahamed Salad taking the Bronze Medal and third place.

The Tigers went to Blaine and participated in the Bengal Invitational.  In the White Division, the Tigers finished first.  Mahamed Salad also finished first with Henry Holcomb coming in third. 

The annual Conference Meet saw the Tigers finish second.  Mahamed Salad, third, Henry Holcomb, eighth, Noah Adriany, 12th, Ethan Davenport, 13th, and Gavin Schulz, 17th, were the Tigers who contributed to the team score.

At the Lefty Wright Grade Level Meet, South finished 18th in the Freshmen and Under division. South did not have enough participants in the other divisions to have a team score.

The Tigers’ season ended at the Region 6AA Meet.  Mahamed Salad was South’s best finisher, coming in 23rd.   

Head Coach Mark Gross was again assisted by Jennifer Huff as the coaches of the Tigers.
