The 2012-2013 Cross Country team had a good season.  With most of the previous girls’ varsity team graduated, they had to start with a lot of rookies.  This turned out to be a wonderful thing for the team as they finished in second place in the city.  Senior Captain Theresa Lindblad thinks the team will be better next year.  Coaches Mark Gross and Melvin Alvarez were joined on the coaching staff by Brittany Pentek.

South opened at the Southwest Invitational. Team scores were not kept since it was an individual race event.  Anna Kleven won the event in an amazing 12:29.30.  Three other Tigers finished in the top 10, Katie Kaelin, fourth, Celina Barnett-Cashman, sixth, and Ciara Cagemore, seventh.

South hosted the South Tiger Invitational.  The team finished in fourth place. Clara Schultz, 16th place, and Mayia Fontaine, 19th place, were the best Tiger finishers.

At the Faribault Invitational, the Tigers finished 15th.  Maiya Fontaine was the best Tiger finisher.

At the Applejack Invitational, South finished in 19th place.  Maiya Fontaine and Kaitlyn Mulhern were the best Tiger finishers.

For three straight days in September, the 27, 28 and 29, the Tigers participated in three straight meets.  First was the Bloomington Jefferson Jaguar Invitational. The Tigers finished in fifth place.  Hanna Warling, 11th, and Kaitlyn Mulhern, 12th, were the best South runners.

At the Mounds View Mustang Invitational, the Tigers finished in 13th place in the Green Division.  Senior Mary Thomas led the Tigers.

Finally, they went to the Roy Griak Invitational.  South finished 26th in the Maroon Division.  Olivia Strebe was South’s best runner.

At the Blaine Bengal Invitational, South finished in 10th place in the Blue Division.  Hanna Warling led the way for the Tigers.

The last regular season meet was in Duluth.  The Tigers participated in the Swain Invitational.  They finished 13th in Class AA.  Clara Schultz again led the way.

The Annual Conference Meet was up next for the Tigers.  The team finished in second place.  Hanna Warling placed fifth.  Katie Kaelin, Olivia Strebe, Priyanka Zylstra, Kaitlyn Mulhern, and Maiya Fontaine finished from 10th through 14th respectively. Shira Breen finished 16th.

The Region 6AA Meet saw the season end for the Tigers.  The team finished 11th.  Hanna Warling was South’s highest finisher.
