In a sport like cross country, some people say you do not need to be a team since it is an individual sport.  But, that is not the South squad.  Senior team captain Safia el-Hmamsi said, according to the 2009 South Yearbook, “The team is like a big family.  We’re together so much.  It’s kind of impossible not to bond!”

Coach Mark Gross loves this attitude.  This is what makes a team successful.

The results of only three regular season meets have been found.  At the Metro Invitational, the Tigers finished ninth.  In the Blaine Bengal Invitational, they finished 11th.  In Faribault, a 12 place South finished 12th.

South entered the Conference Meet with no expectations other than to finish.  No one told that to the Tigers who finished in first place and took home the conference title.
