As the 2008-09 season opened, the Cross Country team embarked on their toughest schedule ever.  They were participating in more meets than ever before.

The first event of the season was the Miller Invitational.  South came in second place.  This was followed by a fourth place finish at the Faribault Invitational.

At the Twin Cities Grade Level Meet, South only placed one runner in the top three.  Russell Chance finished second in the Sophomore division.

South continued the regular season at the Eden Prairie Invitational. The Tigers finished in second place.

At the Bloomington Jefferson Jaguar Invitational, the Tigers came in sixth.

Closing out September, the Tigers participated in the Roy Griak Invitational.  The meet has become so large that there are now two divisions of about 50 schools each.  South participated in the Gold Division and finished 12th.

At the Blaine Invitational, South finished fifth in the Blue Division.

Two days later, South travelled to Duluth to participate in the Swain Invitational.  South shocked the participants finishing first as a team!

At the Metro Invitational, the Tigers came in second.

At the Conference Meet, the Tigers finally overcame Southwest and finished first.

At the final tune up before the region meet, South participated in the Lefty Wright Grade Level Meet.  The Tigers finished 11th in the Junior/Senior division.  The Tigers did not have enough runners at the Freshman or Sophomore divisions for a team score.

At the Region 6AA Meet, the Tigers came in fourth, but Robel Kebede advanced to the State Meet.

At the State Meet, Kebede finished fifth.

Mark Gross again coached the squad.
