2007-2008 Volleyball Season

As Gene McBride and Vic Spandaccini began their second season coaching the Tiger volleyball team, the expectations were high.  The Tigers were expected to vie for the conference title with Southwest.

South opened the season with a 3-0 win over Roosevelt.  The Tigers dominated the Teddies in this match.

South participated in a tournament, winning one match and losing three.  South fell to Alexandria, Minnetonka and Rosemount, all by 2-0 scores.  The Tigers beat St. Peter 2-0.

South returned to conference play beating both North and Edison by 3-0 scores.

In a second tournament, the Tigers were again 2-3.  South defeated St. Paul Highland Park and DeLaSalle 2-0, and lost to Grand Rapids, Robbinsdale Armstrong, and Rochester Mayo by 2-0 scores.

South defeated Washburn 3-0 in their return to conference play.  South and Southwest faced off for the first time.  The Lakers won 3-1.  South finished the first half with a 3-0 win over Henry.

The Tigers opened the second half of the conference season with 3-0 wins over Roosevelt and North. 

In the third tournament of the season, two scores were reported.  South lost to Forest Lake 2-0, but defeated Moose Lake/Willow River 2-1.

South had a more difficult time with Edison, winning 3-1.  South then defeated Washburn 3-0.

In the rematch with Southwest, the contest would be for the conference title.  The teams sat in first and second place, with South’s only loss being to Southwest.  After four games, the match was tied at two.  Southwest claimed the fifth game and the conference championship.

South finished the season with a 3-0 win over Henry.

South finished 10-2 in the Minneapolis City Conference in second place.  Overall, the Tigers were 14-9.  Mariah Baylor and Sophie McBride were named to the All-Conference Team after the season’s end.
