The 2001-2002 soccer season was exceptional for South women’s soccer program according to the 2002 South Yearbook.  Their teamwork and endurance helped them play both hard and strategically, making this a great season.

The South conference season opened against arch-nemesis Southwest.  The two teams have traditionally played close contests and this was no different.  A 3-0 Tiger win put the team on the road to defend their conference title.

The conference scores continued to favor the Tigers.  In easy matches, South defeated North 11-0, Edison 13-0, Henry 7-1, Washburn 6-0 and Roosevelt 12-0.

The second game against Southwest was closer than the first. A 2-0 Tiger win almost guaranteed the team another championship. After this game, the Tigers were in cruise control, beating North 8-0.  Wins over both Edison and Henry followed.  The final score of neither game was reported.  Roosevelt fell 14-0 and Washburn was baked 6-0.  The Tigers won their 10th consecutive conference championship.

The non-conference schedule was a little tougher.  Two losses and two ties were the games reported.  Rochester Lourdes and Apple Valley both beat the Tigers by 2-0 scores.  A 1-1 tie against Rochester Mayo was topped in suspense by the 0-0 tie against St. Paul Academy.

Head Coach Amy Cardarelle finished her seventh season as head coach.  She tied former coach Joe McGinness as the head coach with the longest tenure.
