After finishing second to North last season, the Tiger wanted to reclaim the title they held the prior four seasons.  New head coach Dave Dirks and returning assistant coach Tim Davis knew they had a talented squad but were not sure how the team would respond to the theories of a new coach.

South opened the season winning their first six conference matches, all by 3-0 scores.  Washburn, Roosevelt, North, Southwest, Henry and Edison fell in that order.

In the second round, Washburn finally won a game, but lost the match 3-1.  Roosevelt then fell 3-0.  North lost, but the score were not reported.  Southwest fell 3-0.  Henry lost, but again the score was not reported.  The last conference match saw the Tigers beat Edison 3-0.

In non-conference matches, South defeated South St. Paul 2-1, Fridley 2-0, Henry Sibley 2-0 and Richfield 2-0.  Roseville won 2-1, as did Centennial 2-0 and Totino Grace 2-0.  These matches were all part of a tournament (or tournaments).

South defeated Fridley 3-1 in a non-conference match. Cretin-Derham Hall beat the Tigers 3-1.

In the Twin City Championship, South again faced Cretin-Derham Hall.  Cretin had little trouble winning for the second time against the Tigers, 15-5, 15-8, 15-11.
