South enters the 1997-98 season as the five time defending champion.  South came into the season with 65 players vying for spots on the various teams. 

South opened the conference season against Southwest.  The Lakers and Tigers battled into overtime.  The game ended in a 1-1 tie.

Edison was completely over-powered by the Tigers.  South shut out the Tommies 11-0.  This was followed by a second shutout, this time against Washburn, 3-0.  The Tigers continued winning, beating North.  Unfortunately, the score was not reported.

The shutouts continued. In a second game against Southwest, the Tigers won 1-0.  A fourth shutout gave the Tigers a 7-0 win against Henry.  For the second time in the season, South shut out Washburn.  The Millers fell 2-0.  In the last conference game, South defeated Roosevelt.  Like the North game, the score was not reported.

For the sixth consecutive season, South won the conference title.  They were 7-0-1 in the conference standings.
