Is five straight State Titles possible?  Only one school in state history has won five straight State titles…….Minneapolis Southwest, who claimed the titles from 1969/70 through 1973/74 school years.  Could South become the second school in state history to do so?

South opened the season hosting the Nokomis Invitational.  The Tigers won.  They participated in the Monticello Invitational and won that meet as well.  The Tigers were on their way.

At Apple Valley, South stumbled and finished fifth.  At Elk River the team finished seventh.  The regular season ended with a second place finish at the Anoka Rum River Invitational.

Some may have wondered would the team even win the Conference Meet?  South put doubts aside and claimed the fifth-consecutive Conference Championship.

At the Region 5AA Meet, South again reigned supreme and won, advancing to the State Meet for the 14th time in school history.

At the State Meet, senior Dan Virnig became the first Tiger to bring home the individual title.  Unfortunately for the team, South finished in 10th place.  Their streak has finally been broken.

The team was coached again by Warren Kaari and Craig Canham.
