The 1982-1983 Varsity Basketball team, was an amalgam of students from many different high schools due to the closing that took place at the end of the 1981-1982 school year.  The team was made up of those who used to be rivals from South, Central, Marshall-University and West. The team not only had new players, but they also had new coaches, Head Coach Gordy Halloran and Assistant Coach/JV Coach Anita Rindfleish.

During the first part of the season, the team was not very competitive.  During the second half, the team became more comfortable with each other and confident in their new teammates abilities.

The team opened the conference schedule against North.  Things did not go too well for the Tigers as the Polars handed South their first loss of the season, 54-35.  Edison followed up with a close win over the Tigers, 50-48.  South defeated its first opponent, Southwest, 52-31.

Roosevelt won another close game, edging out the Tigers 45-43.  Washburn handed the Tigers what would be their second-worst loss of the conference season, 49-17.  The last game of the season, Washburn would also win by a 41 point margin, 68-27.

Edison, 47-32, Southwest 40-34, and Roosevelt, 59-47, all defeated the Tigers.  For the other three games of the conference schedule, the scores were not reported.

In a non-conference game, the Tigers defeated St. Paul Johnson 45-33.

The JV team fared slightly better than the varsity, winning three of the 12 conference games.  The wins were against Southwest (twice) and Henry (once).
