Twenty-seven players made up the volleyball squad for the 1981-1982 season, the largest in Tiger history.

South opened the season with their 12th consecutive loss over the last three seasons.  Washburn won 2-1.

The losing streak ended in the second game of the season when the Tigers defeated North 2-0.

Unfortunately, South lost the next five matches.  The first four, against Southwest, Central, Edison and Roosevelt were all 2-0 scores.  Henry won 2-1.

South’s season ended with a 2-0 win over West.

South finished with a 2-6 record, tied with Central and West for sixth place.  Despite the poor record, South placed two players, Melanie Frazier and Maria Jimenez, on the All-Conference Team.

The outlook for next season is bright, with only four graduating seniors among the 27 players.

Rich Friedrichsen was the head coach for the sixth season.  Anith Rindfleisch was the assistant coach.  After the season was over, Friedrichsen decided to leave the program.
