Coach Warren Kaari’s hopes of having a team of 15-20 was dashed when fewer showed up for the first practice.  His six-member team consisted of three seniors, a junior and two eighth-graders.

South started the season against Central.  Central runners crossed the finish in the first five placed, giving them a 15-45 win.

Southwest also took advantage of South’s inexperience and won 15-50.

The closest meet of the season was against North.  The Polars won, but by a slim 24-31 margin.

Henry and Edison both won by the same 15-50 scores.

Against West, the Tigers ran their second-best of the season, losing only 21-34.

In a non-conference meet, the Tigers fell to St. Paul Harding 15-50.

The season ended with a rematch against West, who won 15-50, and a 16-45 loss to Roosevelt.

In the Conference Meet, South finished in 9th place, beating only Marshall-University.  South was 10 points behind West.  Southwest claimed the Championship.  South’s best finisher was Maria Karpinen, who placed 16th.  She ran the two miles in a school record 12:44.00.

Nine days later, the Tigers participated in the Region 5AA Meet.  Southwest took home the team trophy.  South finished in 13th place, between Fridley (12th) and West (14th).  North and Osseo also finished below South.
