On August 22, Coaches Mike and Neil Anderson welcomed the group of women who would comprise the 1978-79 swimming team.  The main goal the team set for itself was improvement over last season, including cutting down on the number of opponents who scored over 90 points (last year six conference opponents scored over 90 points!)

South opened the season in a disappointing manner against Edison.  The team racked up 60 points, but Edison won scoring 95.

A closer meet against West saw the Tigers fall again.  West won 55-25.

Washburn seemed to win every event, piling up 126 points, compared to South’s 38.

Against Marshall-University, the Tigers were very competitive, losing 50-33.  The meet against Roosevelt was even more competitive, with the Tigers losing by only 13, 91-78.

The Tigers achieved their goal of lowering the number of 90+ points against Henry.  The Patriots were limited to 40 points, giving the Tigers their sole win of the season, 42-40.

The final two meets of the season were losses.  Southwest beat the tigers 125-27.  Central won 103-50.

In the Region meet, the freestyle relay team finished fifth.  The Medley Relay team placed sixth.  Kim Wise placed ninth in the 50 yard freestyle.
