South started the season with a “new” head coach.  The “new” head coach was really a former coach, Ron Petrich, who coached the Tigers during the 1973/74 and 1974/75 seasons. Add to the new coach the fact that the team consisted of five juniors, one sophomore and one freshmen, the team had a lot of learning to accomplish in a short period of time.

The season opened on a positive note against Henry.  The Tigers won their first match of the season in their first game, 3-1.

South hit a bump in the road against Washburn.  The Millers shaked and baked the Tigers 5-0.

South earned their second win of the game against North.  The Tigers convincingly won 5-0.  Unfortunately, that was the last win of the season.

The Tigers then went on a six-match losing streak.  Southwest defeated the Tigers 5-0.  South then played a close, 3-2, match against Central.  The remaining three conference games were blow-outs.  West and Edison both won by 5-0 scores.  Roosevelt defeated the Tigers 4-1.

South took on Columbia Heights in the Region 5AA tournament.  The Highlanders ended the Tigers’ season, winning 5-0.

South finished the season with a 2-6 record in a three-way tie with Central and Henry for sixth place.

With the much-gained experience, South should be one of the contenders next season.

Head Coach Ron Petrich announced he would not return during the off-season.
