The Tigers knew the 1976-77 season was going to be tough.  With only one senior on the team, diver Val Hoehn, the Tigers youth would be very noticeable.

South opened the season against West.  The Tigers cheered their teammates on enthusiastically, but fell 58-25.  Against Washburn, the enthusiasm continued.  The team closed the gap, losing only 45-37.

The losses piled up as the Teddies out-swam the Tigers 51-32.  The Patriots also won 53-30.  Southwest then handed the Tigers their fifth loss of the season, 117-52.

The Tigers and Central competed in the next meet.  This was as close as a swim meet could be.  The final race decided the winner, with Central pulling out a one-point, 42-41 win.  Against Edison, South lost 57-26.

With the season coming to an end, it would have been easy for the Tigers to quit.  This team did not know what the word :quit: meant.  They took on Marshall-University in their last meet of the regular season.  The persistence paid off as the Tigers took home a 44-39 win!

Mike Anderson became the head coach of the Tigers.  He was assisted by Sue Almquist.
