As the second season of volleyball at South began, Head Coach Joan Gunberg looked for numbers of players as being import because with numbers you can develop skills of younger players and build for the future.

This was also the first season the Minnesota State High School League held a tournament to crown a State Champion in volleyball.

South opened the season with two straight losses.  A 15-8, 15-6 loss to Southwest was followed by a 15-13, 15-9 loss to Roosevelt.

South earned their first win of the season defeating Henry 2-1, 10-15, 15-11, 15-8.  This was followed by two more wins.  Edison lost to the Tigers 15-7, 15-13.  The defeat of Central 15-7, 15-4, gave the Tigers a three match winning streak.

West broke the winning streak, defeating South 2-0.  The 15-9 game was followed by an “overtime” game with South falling 16-14.

South returned to the win column defeating Vocational 15-11, 15-7.

The conference season ended with 2-0 losses to both North and Washburn.  The individual game scores were not reported.

South won their first Region match over Roosevelt 2-1.  The Tigers came back after losing the first game 13-15, to take the next two 15-8, 15-13.

The Tigers’ season ended with a 15-5, 15-2 loss to Washburn in the second Region match

South finished the season with a 4-5 record in the Minneapolis City Conference, good for 5th place.  Overall the team was 5-6.
